January 1, 2012

It is official, I am retired from FEA today as of January 1, 2012.  Happy NEW Year to me.  A new beginning.  Someone wise told me I should take a picture of the first sunrise of my first day of my new beginning.

I knew the official time for sunrise in Tallahassee was 7:34 am.  I knew the fog was heavy, the visibility was 0.30 MI.  I knew Betton Road runs east/west and that the sunrise was somewhere out there.  I was going for it.  I waited, the moment came, 7:34 am had arrived, I pointed my camera toward the east and snapped the shot, even in the heavy fog.

The moral of the story?  Not sure, but at 7:34 am, the headlights of this car appeared from the east, I snapped the picture and this is MY sunrise on January 1, 2012.

Happy NEW Year to you and to me.  Here’s to our imaginations in 2012.

Don CeSar in Saint Petersburg, Florida

What a treat to re-visit the Don CeSar in 2011.  In the late ’80’s and early ’90’s, we came here in the summers on a work related assignment.  Jamie, Peter and Laura were in elementary and middle school then.  What a joy to have this time together in such a beautiful place, but more important being

Yesterday morning, sitting on one of my benches looking back into the Outdoor Room.  Jamie, Laura and I had Christmas Dinner out there on Christmas Day.
Yesterday morning, I was out there with coffee waiting for them to wake up.  Peaceful.

Tangerines – A Christmas Memory – Really?

image

You guessed it.  Not a bowl of tangerines, but a tangerine in our stocking on Christmas morning.  OK, maybe two tangerines.

It was a given each year, special in rural southeast Indiana, I remember it was a treat and yummy.

The simple things to be remembered.  Know what I mean?  Merry Christmas.

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer

image

OK, can someone help me out here on this Christmas Eve-Eve? In my travels today with Jamie, we passed Rudolph.  I am not sure if I just imagined I saw Rudolph?  Or if Rudolph’s other half is in the grill of this truck?  Or worse maybe this truck hit Rudolph in a Christmas accident.
This truck and Rudolph were not wasting any time getting to wherever they were going and it seem like they were running late.

All I know is, you heard it first right here.   (I hope Rudolph is OK!)

Lauren Tudor

Yes, it is Lauren not Laurence.  I sure hope the guys in the Camellia Club didn’t see that error.  They might ask for the resignation of my membership!

This bloom is even more beautiful today, isn’t it?

Laurence Tudor

image

My first camellia blooming this year is on a young new bush I planted last year.  A Lauren Tudor is known for its huge pink blossoms with red dots.  My camera is nearly on the ground as the bloom is so heavy.
My yard has many, many camellias trees, they are the old varieties types without names.

Now camellia plants have names.  Meet Lauren Tudor probably named for the person who grafted the original.

I belong to the Tallahassee Camellia Club, now that is a group who could tell you more about camellias.  Oh my.  I just like how they look like a rose, how they pack the trees with beautiful color and they appear right in the middle of winter.  Amazing how nature provides this with or without a pretty name.

Christmas Changes

image

I have to say, that change usually works out to be a good thing.  Christmas past and present have offered me many opportunities to deal with change.   This year is no different.
One small area is with trees, we had big beautiful Christmas trees, but also several years of the Charlie Brown types of Christmas trees.  This year a small group of tinsel trees seems to light up the house.   It is a sweet little glow, I think.
Christmas changes?  There are tons of them, but I love this season, I love the moments and memories this season creates by just being this season.  Memories happen, changes happen.
I love this season.

Sky Moment(s)

image

This morning I was driving home from Gainesville, Florida.  I wanted a picture of the sky but I refused to stop on the interstate even if I missed what I thought was the perfect picture.  Each moment and I mean  moment was different.
Aren’t all moments different?  Waiting, waiting, waiting then all of a sudden, a Rest Area, an  opportunity opens up and I say YES to the moment and this is the one I remember.

Something about this picture!

image

I’m not sure what it is about this picture.  Sure it is my Mini, I have parked in this space or near it for the last month while staying in Fernandina Beach historical district.  On Amelia Island, the Florida Railway Company was chartered in 1853, comes through daily, continues through Yulee, it is fascinating.  It shakes the island, me, my car and hotel, but just a little, the whistle use to wake me up, but I’m getting use to it now.  Living life or trying to.
